Aluminium is a material which is now indispensable in daily life in the food industry, in packaging and in the pharmaceutical industry.

Its characteristics and advantages are manifold.

Its strength, malleability, formability, barrier properties, deadfold characteristics and ability to stand extremes of heat and cold are unique amongst packaging materials. Aluminium packaging is light, flexible and easily recyclable. Furthermore, it is hygienic, non-toxic and helps in keeping the aroma of foods. It keeps the food fresh for a long time and provides protection from light, ultraviolet radiation, oils and grease, water vapour, oxygen and microorganisms.

Aluminium foil reacts only to highly concentrated acids and basic substances and is otherwise strongly corrosive resistant.
Aluminium foil is sterile and therefore hygienic. Aluminium foil is tasteless and odorless. Aluminium foil is extremely dimensionally stable even in soft state. Aluminium foil can be recycled several times without loss of quality. Aluminium foil does not absorb liquids.

Cartonal has established a strong relationship with first class producers and is able to deliver a wide range of gauges and alloys both customized or from warehouse with a good  selection of reel widths and gauges.

Food Packaging

Our foils and strips are used to produce packaging material for food and beverages, including ice cream cones, soup stock cubes, coffee packaging, chocolate and dairies as well as lidding. Achieving A-grade wettability (according to DIN EN 546-4), our materials are well suited for lacquering, printing and laminations, such as glue lamination, PE lamination and hotmelt lamination. Household alufoil in alloy 8011 is available in thicknesses 9-12my for domestic use such as freezing, rosting, baking and miscellaneous kitchen uses.

Pharmaceutical applications

Packaging in the pharmaceutical industry requires special attention as not only should it protect the product and preserve its properties, but also guarantee high hygiene standards. Aluminum foil is used in pharmacy to safely transport and store medications. Aluminum is particularly suitable for this because it ensures complete insulation against light, gases, moisture and germs. The so-called blister packs allow the hygienic preservation of medication and make it possible to remove tablets individually while the other tablets remain completely protected from environmental exposure. In the field of cosmetics, the targeted dosage possibilities offered by aluminum tubes and aerosol cans and their hygienic properties play a decisive role.

Tobacco Innerliners & Foil Tobacco Packaging

Tobacco packaging demands premium quality whether utilizing aluminium-paper laminates, metalised papers or printed paper.  Our alufoil can be used for innerliners in plain, gold, coloured, printed, bright and matt finishes.

The high resistance and the relatively low cost makes aluminum foil suitable for industrial applications. By alloying aluminum with other metals (such as magnesium, manganese, copper, nickel, silicon or zinc) a wide range of aluminum alloys and foils with different properties can be produced. Whether for packaging or for technical applications such as the vapor barrier in house construction or the insulation in piping sytems – aluminum foil offers countless possibilities and is indispensable in any branch of the industry:  insulation, roofing and cables.

Our products can be printed, extruded and laminated to produce many forms of packaging, across all product ranges, but particularly food.
